Peter M. Doremus, the founding member of this law firm, has been in continuous practice in Vermont since 1972. Peter is a graduate of the University of Vermont (1969) and Syracuse University School of Law (1972), where he was a member of Law Review and President of Phi Delta Phi, a legal fraternity, from 1971-1972. From 1974-1976 Peter served as Chairman of the Vermont State Tax Appeal Board.

Peter’s knowledge of the business climate in this region is formidable. His practice focuses primarily in the areas of real estate development and commercial finance, at various times representing lenders, developers, development agencies and related parties. Peter has represented several large regional banks concerning a variety of complex business and financial matters. He has represented trustee lenders and construction lenders in many revenue bond financings, with the Vermont Economic Development Authority and the Vermont Education and Health Financing Agency,
having primary responsibility to structure inter-creditor arrangements for recovery and liquidation of collateral. He has represented developers in a variety of financing arrangements for national tenants including mortgage-backed security and bonded
lease transactions. Peter has structured numerous private financing and venture capital transactions. He provides complex tax and estate planning services to numerous business and individual clients, including structuring 1031 tax deferred exchanges.

Peter currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. He is a member of the American, Chittenden County and Vermont Bar Associations.
